Gillian Greer of Vinings Historic Preservation Society

IMG_2184

Gillian Greer was born in Atlanta, grew up in the Dunwoody and later Sandy Springs area, and moved to Vinings ten years ago to live with my mom when my dad passed away.  She has been there ever since and has no plans of leaving!  Gillians mom had Antiques of Vinings for 33 years so she spent a lot of time in Vinings well before moving  there. Gillian retired early from Delta Air Lines and when she heard about the Executive Director position at Vinings Historic Preservation Society, she applied and then began my life in the village.  The job was twenty hours a week but has grown so much since then.

The Society is actually The Ruth Carter Vanneman Society, dba VHPS.  Ruth was the great-great granddaughter of Hardy Pace and upon her death she left a small endowment to form the Historic Society.  In 1993 the organization was formed.

The Society’s mission is to maintain and preserve The Yarbrough House, The Old Pavilion, and The Pace House and educate the public on the history of the area.  All 3 buildings are on the Cobb County register and The Pace House is on the National Register of Historic Places.
